Melvin Carrington Smith, Sr. serves as a trustee and and has hosted dozens of seminars open to members, guests, and the public. He coaches people to improve their plans for life, especially for the Financial Area of Life. He also volunteers for the Alabama Money Expo, Optimist Club, and Crisis Center.

Melvin is semi-retired working as a private wealth advisor with First Financial Group since 1997.  He was formerly a Director of Marketing with AT&T.

Melvin earned the CFP®, certification and ChFC® designation from the College of Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado.  Melvin graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge with a BS degree in Mathematics.

Melvin was featured in Black Enterprise magazine in an article on “How to be a Stress-Free Retiree.” Melvin specializes in pre and post individual retirement planning with emphasis on wealth creation, preservation and protection, and the efficient distribution of that wealth.

Melvin founded the Financial Discovery Forum, a non-profit organization composed of professional men and women whose mission is “to enhance community’s knowledge, understanding and application of financial concepts thereby improving their opportunity for financial stability, success and independence.” He was also highlighted in Black Enterprise regarding this organization and his pursuit of improving financial literacy throughout the community.

Melvin is married to Shandra Jackson Smith and is the father of five children. He is active in many civic and community organizations and was just awarded the “Emancipation Proclamation” award for community service.
